The Simple Marketing Secret No One Tells You

Let me tell you a secret: It’s okay to talk about yourself.

Like, A LOT. Especially if you're in launch mode.

Some of my biz buddies have had to pivot recently and go online. Which is cool because we're all having to do it, right? Except our convo goes like this:

Me: hey! how'd your program launch go? did you get some registrations?

Buddy: ugh. PB. No and it sucks! I've only gotten ONE freakin' person signed up.

Me: Oh, shit! How many times did you share about it?

Buddy: Well, I posted it once to Instagram...and Facebook!

Me: *blink blink*

Me: what about your email list?

Buddy: ...

^ and that's the point at which I want to lovingly slap my biz buddy across the face with a sea bass (from a safe 6-foot distance, natch) because damnit! How many times do I have to say, start your email list already?!

Point is: here's a major (common) mistake I see when people are marketing their service or product:

Only posting about it once.

And you might already be thinking: "but PB! Isn't is so freakin' annoying when people constantly post about their business stuff? That's sleazy right?"

Short answer: No. Because, frankly, nobody notices what you post nearly as much as you think they do. Remember: the algorithm makes sure only about 5.5% of what you post on Facebook or Instagram is seen by your followers (and that's a real number btw, I didn't just make that up).

Did you know on average people need to see/hear about your offering seven times (7!!!) before pulling the trigger?

So yes. Please repeat yourself.

Case in point: my little sister and I can *still* sing --in perfect unison-- this jingle from the 90s for a local carpet cleaning company (it goes like this: "call 2-6-7-8-4-3-3 because the next best thing to new, is Dalworth Clean!")

>> in the name of research, yes, I found the original ad from 1994 and it's exactly like I remember! Plus, please take an extra 30 seconds and watch their more recent ad which is so cheesy with its soft core vibes I can't help but love it

Anyway, the only reason that jingle sticks in my brain is because I heard it a million times growing up. Because when you repeat your message it makes it stick in people's brains.

So yes. Please repeat yourself (see what I did there?)

Post about your product/service many times. You know I think social media is boring and stuff but even I'm all over it like queso on chips when I'm launching my small group program. Just sayin'.

Seriously. Mark you calendar and make sure you're posting every.single.day to social media during a launch. If you're starting to annoy yourself, perfect! That means you're probably sharing frequently enough.

And before I sign off: seriously start your email list already.

If you already have one but it's gone stale then for the love of all that's good and holy please, please start re-engaging with / warming up that audience before you randomly send an "oh heeeey stragner! long time, no see! btw, here's my pitch plz buy kthxbye" email.
