The One Thing You’re Not Doing that Could be Costing You Clients

I have a secret for getting your peeps to return again and again: thank you notes.

And the crazy thing is, you’re probably not doing it. It’s okay. Most people don’t. Which is exactly why taking the time to write handwritten thank you notes to your customers will not only create a high-touch, stellar client experience but it’ll also help YOU to stand out.

Not what you expected, right? No complicated sales techniques here, lady. The secret to happy customers is creating a great experience. And a rill rill big part of a great experience is personalization.

Think about it for a sec: we're all inundated with advertising and sales every.damn.day. And doesn't it feel crappy when you spend money on a product or service only to feel like the person takes your dough and is like, "cool! thanks for the dolla' dolla' bills! see ya never!"

Your customers are more than a number toward your bottom line. They're more than a transaction.

I mean, we all just wanna be seen and heard ya know? It doesn't matter whether you're product or service based, spending $3 on a card + stamp and 3 minutes of your time will go a loooong way to making your customers feel like the bee's knees.

I'm not making this shit up. Fact: only 9% of customers leave because of what a competitor is offering but a full 6o% will leave if they feel a company is indifferent to them.

Isn't that crazy?! More than HALF of your peeps will gladly say "BYE, FELICIA!" if they don't feel valued by you no matter how good your bespoke mermaid tails or dog therapy services are.

Writing a quick handwritten thank you note to your customer puts you above and beyond for 3 reasons:

  • life is fast AF these days - slowing down to put pen to paper shows you're willing to take time our for your customer

  • a handwritten note shows your customer you value them as a human being

  • and it reminds your customer that YOU are a human being

That last one might seem silly but remember: people buy from people. I'll tell you this: there's a boutique called The Flourish Market that I regularly buy from. Never mind that I could probably get lower prices elsewhere. And for sure faster shipping. But every time my purchase arrives with a handwritten thank you note I think how good I feel supporting Emily's shop. I feel part of a relationship and not just a transaction, ya know?

Do you already write thank you notes to your customers? Is there a business you love that sends you love notes? Tell me about it in the comments!
